Danbury Seeks Feedback on City's Hazard Mitigation Plan
The City invites feedback on the Hazard Mitigation Plan with a public comment survey.

From the Mayor's Office:
Danbury’s Office of Civil Preparedness (OCP) has released a survey to seek public comment on the forthcoming update to the city’s Hazard Mitigation Plan. A hazard mitigation plan is crafted to prepare the city in an event of a naturally occurring disaster such as tropical storms, tornadoes, snowstorms, floods, wildfires, etc. The plan contains actions that the city will take to prepare before an event in order to prevent damages.
Anyone who lives or works in Danbury is asked to take part in the survey and share ideas for the plan. “We’ve found that a wide variety of public input will help us develop the best strategies for the city,” said Paul Estefan (OCP). “We hope the public will take a few minutes and help out.” Data from the survey will address which naturally hazardous events residents consider most prevalent and work towards identifying the necessary actions to put in place in order to prepare for future natural disasters.

Many natural hazard events impact Danbury each year, causing property damage, power outages, traffic congestion, public and private expenditures, and sometimes injury or death. Hazard mitigation reduces these risks by supporting sustained actions that prevent or reduce the effects of natural disasters. The hazard mitigation plan will be updated in order to ensure that the mitigation strategy is most sustainable for the area’s specific vulnerabilities.
The survey will run until September 1st, 2016. After the data is collected the Office of Civil Preparedness, working with a private consultant, will evaluate which sections of the current plan need to be updated. When a final draft is produced, parts of the plan will be visible through the City’s website.
