Danbury Sports Center Settles Food Allergy Complaint

The complaint alleged that the facility refused to admit a child to its summer camp program because of the child's food allergies. ​

DANBURY, CT — A local sports arena has settled a discrimination complaint filed against it by the parents of a child with severe food allergies.

The complaint alleged that the Danbury Sports Dome refused to admit the child to its summer camp program because of the child’s food allergies.

Under the terms of the settlement agreement, the Danbury Sports will change its policies to comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act.

Specifically, the arena "will implement new nondiscriminatory policies, practices and procedures regarding the admission of and programming for children with disabilities who wish to attend their camps, programs, services and activities," according to a news release from the United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut. "Danbury Sports Dome will designate an employee to serve as its ADA coordinator and will train its employees on compliance with Title III of the ADA. Additionally, Danbury Sports Dome will revise its registration materials to inform parents of children with disabilities of their right to request reasonable modifications of the facility’s programs and will post to its website the nondiscrimination policy approved by the U.S. Attorney’s Office."

Prosecutors noted in the release that the management of the Danbury Sports Arena cooperated throughout proceedings and displayed a commitment to comply with ADA.
