Danbury Students Receive National Youth Volunteer Corps Awards

Six local students were recently honored at the Youth Volunteer Corps Summit for their service to the local YVC of Western Connecticut program.

Morgan Greening, AmeriCorps member with Youth Volunteer Corps of Western Connecticut, was named AmeriCorps Member of the Year across the network. YVC is an organization focused on creating meaningful service opportunities for youth.

Greening is currently serving her third term as an AmeriCorps member and has helped lead the local YVC program at United Way of Western Connecticut to empower youth to give back in greater Danbury.

“We extend our sincere congratulations to Morgan on her exemplary service with our YVC program and in the greater Danbury community,” Kim Morgan, CEO of United Way of Western Connecticut said in a statement. “Morgan is a role model for our youth and we are very proud of what she has accomplished.”

Five local youth were also honored at the YVC Summit for their service to the local YVC of Western Connecticut program. They earned the 100-in-1 Award for serving at least 100 hours with YVC in a single year:

• Emma Kiernan, student at Scotts Ridge Middle School, Ridgefield
• Korrine Nelson, student at Danbury High School
• Connor Parille, student at Rogers Park Middle School, Danbury
• Matthias Siber, student at Danbury High School
• Cory Struski, student at Danbury High School
