Danbury Trainer Offers #MotivationMonday 7 Days a Week

Max Barry, owner of Max's Best Bootcamp on Triangle St., offers motivation 7 days a week through classes, social media and more.

If you’re like many, the long Columbus Day weekend meant unhealthy eating, not a whole lot of exercise and lots of sleeping in. But not for Max Barry and his boot camp army.

Part fitness guru, part health coach and part motivational speaker, the 30-something-year-old uses social media, boot camp classes and now a brand new TV show to keep his clients motivated and moving. Barry opened up his gym about a year ago on Triangle St. across from the Department of Motor Vehicles and it has been an upward climb ever since.

“I always visualized owning a gym,” said Barry. “My vision was to have a fitness party. We make it fun with high fives, team building and group training.”

His gym, Max’s Best Bootcamp, offers classes for any age and fitness level. A typical class includes training with heavy ropes, resistance bands, sledgehammers and truck tires and more, although there is no “typical” class. Each group session partners clients with another person and they complete the workout together in an encouraging group environment.

With a background in personal training, teaching tennis and working for other gyms, Barry said his various educational and work experiences gave him the skill set he needed to be successful at his venture.

“I feel like every job I had, from bartending to waiting tables, helped me develop the people skills that I needed to do what I’m doing.”

A graduate of Wooster School, Barry said he ”used to be a chubby kid” and, like many, went through those awkward teen years. That is what began his quest for health and fitness. He played tennis in high school and was the number one single and doubles champion.

After graduating from Northeastern with a B.A. in Marketing, Barry said he wanted to inspire the community to get fit as well, and so Max’s Best Bootcamp was born. Along with his trainers Nick Kulhay, Randi Lowenadler and Rachel Vail, the group has created a small cult following of fitness enthusiasts who help each other stay on track with their goals seven days a week.
