Danbury's Westside Middle School Students Win Awards at CT Science and Engineering Fair

The Westside Middle School students won over $5,000 in awards, checks and trips for their projects.

DANBURY, CT-- Westside Middle School (WMS) students won eight out of 10 projects submitted at the Connecticut Science & Engineering Fair held last week at Quinnipiac University, according to Danbury Public School Superintendent Sal Pascarella.

WSMSA seventh- and eighth-grade students winners were:

  • Sarah Johnson and Angeli Joseph - 2nd place in Life Sciences Team and Biotechnology
  • Ben Laham - 5th in the Urban School Challenge
  • Nick Raslavsky - finalist in Life Sciences and Environmental Sciences and special award from Turnkey Environmental
  • Sanjana Shririm - 2nd place in Physical Science for the Petit Family Foundation Women in Science and Engineering
  • Gryffin Syme - 3rd place in Physical Science
  • Jeff Osborne - 2nd place in Physical Sciences, 3rd in Sustainable Resources, 2nd in the Urban School Challenge
  • Lasya Josyula - 1st in Life Sciences, 1st place in Biotechnology, 2nd in the Life Science for the Petit Family Foundation Women in Science and Engineering 2nd Place in Sustainable Resources and 1st Place in the Urban School Challenge

Jeff Osborne was the highest placed 8th grade student in the Urban School Challenge and won a trip to the Genius Olympiad this summer.

Lasya Josyula was the highest placed 7th grade student in Urban School Challenge and won a week at Ocean Camp.

The WMS students won over $5,000 in awards, checks and trips.
