Dawn Blom Named Annual Heart of Women Award Recipient

Dawn Blom will be recognized for her contributions to the community at a Gala at the Ethan Allen Hotel in Danbury.

Dawn Blom, founder and long-time owner of DPZ Dawn's Pizzazz, will be presented with the annual Heart of Women Award by the Women's Business Council at a cocktail/dinner reception sponsored by Peoples United Bank on Thursday, October 20th at the Ethan Allen Hotel in Danbury.

Nominated by Debbie Barrigas, Dawn’s sister and a Senior Stylist at DPZ, Dawn is a familiar face in the community whose philanthropic efforts have raised thousands for individuals and charitable causes in the area including the Regional Hospice Healing Hearts Center, Ann’s Place, Family & Children’s Aid, Mothers Against Drunk Driving, ALS, Cookies for Kids Cancer and many others. In 1986, Dawn started the Blessing Tree as a way to match donors and recipients in need of gifts and food for the holidays and on a regular basis, she closes the salon for “Days of Pampering” offering some much-needed TLC to cancer patients and their caregivers at no cost. “I am very blessed to not only be Dawn’s sister but, a part of her incredible team for almost thirty years,” Debbie said.

Fostering a sense of community is paramount to Dawn, and her team of dedicated professionals is reminded of this by a sign that hangs prominently at the salon noting the importance of ‘paying it forward.’ During the 2014 holiday season, Dawn launched her ‘Pay it Forward’ campaign offering any customer a complimentary service to pay forward to a friend or family member, spreading acts of kindness one service at a time. “I don’t feel as though I’m doing anything special,” Dawn said after learning she had been selected. “I’m just doing what we should all be doing as human beings. There’s a real satisfaction to rallying people together for a common cause and I feel like it’s my responsibility to do what I can to make someone’s life better.”
