'Dish Living' Comes to Downtown Danbury

The "World Food Day' Walk will begin on Saturday, October 15 in City Center Danbury.

"The true charm of pedestrianism does not lie in the walking, or in the scenery, but in the talking." - Mark Twain

How often do you truly explore your own neighborhood or a community nearby? Probably not much. "Joining in sharing such worldwide urban community celebrations is a delight", says Ted Killmer, a Danbury Downtown resident and international festival enthusiast, who with a sense of curiosity, creativity, and community, is guiding a celebration of 'World Food Day' on Saturday, October 15th, 11:00am to 1:00pm, throughout CityCenter's Main Street business district. And what better than to happen during Danbury Restaurant Week (visit here).

"There are many local, national and international urban celebrations. By Walking Downtown environments, they become inspiring and significant parts of an impactful, international movement that cherishes place making. City living is now the trend, from Iceland to Belgium to South Africa to Argentina. The intention of 'coming together' as curious, creative members of a worldwide community as urban and arts enthusiasts is of enormous import", notes Ted. He has recently conceived DisH Living ("Downtown is Happening") as an outlet for his Walking endeavors, each of which will be announced throughout the year.

The "World Food Day' Walk will include a pre-sneak stop at an upstart Main Street eatery, a visit to an Asian Market, a taste of Brooklyn, a visit to the Danbury Farmers' Market, a marathon fill-the-basket spree for one Walker at Hat City Market, and an art reception at @287 Gallery & Meeting Place, the home of the Cultural Alliance of Western Connecticut. Alicia Ghio, culinary writer for Tribuna Connecticut and author of popular food blog, Local Food Rocks, will join the Walk to add commentary and some surprises.

This project is supported in part by the Cultural Alliance of Western Connecticut in partnership with the Connecticut Department of Economic and Community Development, Office of the Arts, and the National Endowment for the Arts. In addition, it also receives support by CityCenter Danbury and the more-than-generous participation of eateries, shops, businesses, and individuals who make Danbury home or destination.

The 'World Food Day' Walk is free, though tips are welcomed.

As much as possible, stops are wheelchair accessible, family friendly, and do not require difficult climbs. Attendance is limited. Reservations are required. RSVP to dishliving@gmail.com with your name, the number in your party, and a phone contact to confirm. (Walk program subject to change.)

"It's the DisH," says Ted Killmer, "Downtown is Happening! Oh, and wear comfortable shoes, bring your camera, and a tote bag".
