October 25, 2016 (Shelton, CT) –Fairfield County Medical Association (FCMA) is proud to announce that Winston Y. Shih, has been selected to receive the prestigious Virginia Apgar Award for Excellence in Medical Research and Education at the Fairfield County Medical Association’s Annual Meeting being held on October 27, 2016, at the Inn at Longshore in Westport, CT from 4:00-8:00 p.m.
Dr. Shih is a board-certified Nephrologist, who specializes in Nephrology and Hypertension and is affiliated with Western Connecticut Medical Group and Danbury Hospital. He is also a Program Director of Internal Medicine Residency at Danbury Hospital and an Assistant Clinical Professor of Medicine at Yale University’s School of Medicine. Dr. Shih received his medical degree from NYU’s School of Medicine and has been in practice for more than 20 years. His commitment to research and education, specifically in Nephrology has had a lasting impact on the medical field and the patients and students that he serves.

FCMA‘s Annual Meeting will feature an evening of live music, comradery and award presentations. This exciting event will feature a keynote address titled “Human Care: Revive Your Healing Passion and Thrive” by Hassan A. Tetteh, MD, MBA, FACS, FACHE, a nationally renowned lecturer and author of “Gifts of the Heart.” Dr. Gray will be one of the select physicians honored during the Physicians Extraordinaire Award Ceremony, which in addition, will recognize several practicing physicians in Fairfield County who demonstrate a commitment to providing the highest quality medical care and practices for the patients whom they serve.
Other prestigious awards that will be presented during the Annual Meeting include: Benjamin Rush Award for Lifetime Achievement-Lawrence Blum, MD, Patch Adams Award for Distinguished Community Service- Anna C. Freitag, MD, Prasad Srinivasan Award for Dedication to Medical Advocacy-F. Scott Gray, MD, Albert Schweitzer Award for Humanitarian Endeavors-Bonnie McGuire Wreschner, MD, Sir William Osler Award for Outstanding Resident-Deepak Kanna Kadayakkara, MD, Dr. Melville Magida Award for Notable Patient Care-Mark A. Vitale, MD.

Additionally, 7 Physicians that have been practicing medicine for 50 years will be recognized at the event and are as follows: Taesun Chung, MD, Robert A. Israely, MD, Michael A. Lee, MD, Kenneth J. Lippmann, MD, Richard G. Lovanio, MD, Stuart N. Novack, MD, and Sheikh M. Yousuf Ali, MD.
Connecticut State Representative Daniel Carter, will also be awarded FCMA’s 2016 Legislator of the Year award for being a strong patient and physician advocate at the State Capitol and for his instrumental role in helping to craft improvements to the Connecticut Prescription Drug Monitoring Program, which is aimed at addressing the opioid crisis.

Thompson, Executive Director of the Fairfield County Medical Association, commented on the upcoming event by saying “FCMA’s Annual Meeting, will truly be an incredible evening, where so many of Fairfield County’s most prominent physicians will be recognized for making a difference and helping to advance the delivery of healthcare in their local communities and beyond.”
