Education Veterans Eye Danbury School Board Opening

A former school board chairman and an English teacher are vying to fill the vacancy on the school board.

DANBURY, CT —A former school board chairman and local high school English teacher have applied to fill the open seat on the Danbury school board, the News Times has reported.

Former school board chairman Ralph Pietrafesa and Pomperaug High School English teacher Maegan Bollin are both vying for the opening created when Richard Hawley vacated his seat in October.

It is customary to fill vacated school board seats with members of the same poliitical party as the person who left. Hawley was a Republican, as are both Pietrafesa and Bollin. Pietrafesa has been recommended by the Republican Town Committee; Bollin taught English and literature at Pomperaug High School for the past ten years. Both will meet with the board at 5 p.m. Wednesday evening, and the board will announce their decision in advance of their meeting scheduled for 7 p.m.
