First-Ever Danbury Winter Festival A 'Huge Success'

DANBURY, CT — CityCenter Danbury is calling the city's first annual Light the Lights Winter Festival a "great success."

The event's organizers said that over 1,000 children and their family members gathered on the city Green on Sunday to officially kick off the holiday season in Danbury.

The event, originally scheduled for Saturday, weathered a one-day rain rescheduling.

"The first annual Light the Lights Winter Festival was a huge success. It was a great day to bring together our community and celebrate the holiday season. Our new Christmas tree is a wonderful addition to downtown Danbury and I look forward to continuing this tradition for years to come," Mayor Dean Esposito said.

In a statement released Wednesday, organizers thanked the city's public workers, Danbury Police Department, Danbury Cadets, Salvation Army, Union Savings Bank and others who had a hand in the festival's success.

Lazaro Chavez, CityCenter manager, said, "The dream has finally come to reality with the support of the City of Danbury in bringing this magnificent tree to the Green! I felt a tremendous sense of joy in seeing everyone full of smiles and such positive energy! For our first Winter Festival, I couldn’t have asked for a better showing. It was great to feel Downtown Danbury shine bright!"
