Former CT Top Prosecutor Sentenced for Stealing from Danbury Mobster

Fairfield's H. James Pickerstein was accused of embezzling more than $600,000 from convicted Danbury mobster James Galante.

FAIRFIELD, CT — Fairfield’s H. James Pickerstein, who was once the state’s top federal prosecutor, was sentenced to 30 days in a minimum-security prison in connection to charges he stole more than $600,000 from convicted Danbury mobster James Galante, according to the Fairfield Citizen.

Pickerstein, 70, pleaded guilty to one count of mail fraud in January after he was accused of embezzling $613,216 from Galante, a former Danbury trash hauler who was convicted and sentenced to prison on racketeering charges.

Daniel Tepfer reports after Galante was released from prison, he secretly recorded a conversation with Pickerstein and confronted him about the missing money.

During that conversation, Tepfer reports, Pickerstein begged Galante not to turn him in, saying it would “kill me as a lawyer. Don’t ruin my career. I was jammed up with my firm. I’m broke. My son hasn’t worked. My wife’s medicine is $3,500 a month.”
