Foundation of Subway Restaurants Co-Founder Donates $50,000 to City

Dr. Peter Buck partnered with Fred Deluca to start a sandwich empire which began in Bridgeport in 1965.

DANBURY, CT — The foundation started by a co-founder of one of the most popular fast food chains in the country has made a $50,000 donation to the city.

The Peter and Carmen Lucia Buck Foundation, started by Subway co-founder Dr. Peter Buck, contributed the funds to the Danbury Department of Elder Services. According to the letter from Susan Tomanio, the director of elder services, the funding will be used to support a part-time position in the department, as well as equipment and supplies for the senior center.

Buck partnered with family friend Fred Deluca to open a sandwich shop in 1965 in Bridgeport, later becoming a sandwich empire with over 44,000 stores nationwide.

With his wife Carmen Lucia, Buck established the foundation in 1999 as a private family foundation that seeks to improve quality of life in communities it serves.
