Spicy or sweet? Veggie or meat? What's your favorite kind & where's your favorite place to get a taco in the area? Tell us in the comments.
Today is National Taco Day and according to NationalTacoDay.com, Americans really love their tacos, eating over 4.5 billion last year. With the popularity of food trucks and so many restaurants celebrating “Taco Tuesdays,” you don’t have to travel too far to enjoy one.
NationalTacoDay.com’s website says the word “taco” is the Mexican equivalent of the English word “sandwich.”
Smithsonian Magazine says the origins of the taco dates back to the 18th century to the silver mines in Mexico. The word “taco” referred to the instruments used to excavate the ore. The magazine says one of the first types of tacos described was called “tacos de mineo,” or miner’s tacos.
