Hazardous Materials Leaked Into Danbury's Still River
DEEP is overseeing the cleanup of about 1,800 gallons of oil leaked into the river by a local manufacturing firm.
DANBURY, CT — The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection is overseeing the cleanup of about 1,800 gallons of oil that spilled into the Sympaug Brook on Monday. That brook empties into the Still River in the city.
Calling the spill a "pretty serious one," Mayor Mark Boughton warned residents away from both waterways during a livestreamed news conference.
The leak was caused by a hose failure at a manufacturing facility owned by Stanley Engineered Fastening on Shelter Rock Lane, according to DEEP.

"Heavy metals were leaked," Boughton said, "but it will be diluted once the rains come."
In the meantime Stanley has hired Moran Environmental Recovery and Fuss & O'Neill to assist in the cleanup,
