Danbury, CT; 04/27/20 - A hand up not a hand-out in this economic crisis is the focus of Housatonic Habitat for Humanity's campaign during #GivingTuesdayNow, a global online fundraising event on Tuesday, May 5.

"Working families have lost their jobs and we are raising funds to ensure they don't lose their homes during this harsh health and economic crisis," said Fran Normann, Executive Director of Housatonic Habitat. "Thanks to our donors and volunteers, we have been able to build and sell affordable housing to hard working families in our local communities. Now they are again fighting for their homes as they face economic hardships from a lost paycheck."

Normann said that Housatonic Habitat is deferring mortgage payments from its homeowners who have lost their jobs. "As a non-profit, we have limited resources and hope neighbors can help establish a fund that will allow us to pay homeowner's taxes and insurance until they are re-employed." Still strong, Normann said the local Habitat chapter has retained its payroll even while sales from its ReStore warehouse have stopped after shuttering.
