DANBURY, CT — An iconic family-owned hot dog joint is on the market in Danbury.

JK's Original Hot Texas Weiners, which has been in business at its 126 South Street location since 1974, is now listed by Caldwell Banker Realty for $2.2 million. The business and the building are being sold together.

JK's is a direct descendant of Original Texas Hot Weiners, founded in 1924 by George and Peter Koukos. That establishment was located on White Street, according to the restaurant's website. In 1938, Peter Koukos passed away and George brought in his son, John, to help run the business.

The restaurant moved again in 1951, to West Street in Danbury, where it remained until its 1974 relocation to its current location, all the while owned and operated by the Family Koukos.

The listing touts the restaurant's location as a "suburban meets 'downtown' area of town which is the ideal location to continue running this famous restaurant."

"Many businesses, especially during pandemic times, did not make it, this particular business thrived throughout the shut down and still continues to grow and could expand to even more," according to the banker.

The current menu is traditional diner fare. Breakfasts include country-style ham and eggs, as well as a variety of pancakes, French toast and omelettes. Lunch offers a full slate of burgers, grinders, club sandwiches, soups, salad plates and, of course, pies.

The listing agent says the current owners favor a buyer who shares their passion.

"The family who owns this would love nothing more than capable and willing people to pass off the years of dedication to someone with the same dream!"
