Lawyers Make Case For New Trial in Danbury Restaurant Slaying

During the original trial, prosecutors alleged a man shot his uncle and then dismembered his body with a meat saw.

DANBURY — Lawyers for Marash Gojcaj, serving a 50-year prison sentence for the slaying of a downtown restaurant owner, are in court Thursday requesting a new trial for their client, the News Times is reporting.

Gojcaj was found guilty in 2010 of killing his uncle and business partner, Joseph Vulevic, at the Gusto Restaurant on Main Street. During the trial, prosecutors alleged Gojcaj shot Vulevic and then dismembered his body with a meat saw after an argument in 2004.

The attorneys are seeking a new trial based on a claim that a deal made with a key witness was not disclosed to the defense during the discovery phase at the the time of the trial.
