Machete-Wielding Man Trespassing At Danbury Elementary School: Police

Police were dispatched to the Ellsworth Avenue School for a report of a person trespassing on school property with a machete.

DANBURY, CT — A man was apprehended after he was found trespassing on the grounds of a Danbury elementary school with a machete, police are reporting.

Derek Sotelo, 20, has been charged with carrying a dangerous weapon, second-degree trespass and second-degree breach of peace.

Police were dispatched on Thursday to the Ellsworth Avenue School for a report of a person trespassing on school property with a machete. A witness told police that a man and a woman were seen in the alleyway of the school attempting to jump a fence leading to the playground.

Before climbing the fence, the man removed a machete from his pants and handed it to the woman, according to the witness's report.

Police say the school's safety advocate confronted Sotelo, and both he and the woman left the area. Sotelo was later arrested, and is being held on a $10,000 bond.
