Major Crime is Down in Danbury: Report

There was a 50 percent drop in reports of forcible rape, but motor vehicle thefts are up.

DANBURY, CT — The police have assembled 2019 year-to-date crime stats, and the numbers show a 17-percentage point drop in major crimes over the same period last year.

The report was prepared in advance of Wednesday's City Council meeting.

Instances of crimes reported across all categories in the report are down compared to the same period in 2018, with the exception of an 18.5 percent increase in motor vehicle theft.

There was a 50 percent drop in reports of forcible rape, three instances down from six during the first five months of 2018. The DPD also recorded strong gains in the number of robberies reported.

The PD advised that the statistics reported in the Uniform Crime Report are subject to change due to monthly crime modifications.
