Nelson Merchan Elected to Habitat Board of Directors

Nelson Merchan with the Connecticut Small Business Development Center (SBDC), was elected to the Housatonic Habitat for Humanity Board of Directors.

As business advisor to the SBDC, Nelson works with prospective and business owners in the Ridgefield-Danbury-New Milford-Southbury corridor. Previously, he was chairman of the Western Connecticut SCORE Chapter. He is currently co-president for the Friends of the Danbury Library and is a member of the community board at United Way of Western Connecticut. Nelson is a frequent speaker on business development and has presented at the last five SBDC national conferences. He has been keynote speaker at business events in Chile and El Salvador. He has an office at the Danbury Chamber of Commerce.

“Nelson is a valuable asset in the communities he serves,” said Fran Normann, Executive Director of Housatonic Habitat for Humanity. “His market research, sales, marketing and online experience is valuable to us as we develop a pipeline of workforce housing and a pipeline of qualified applicants.” Nelson earned an MBA from Georgia State University and BBA from Universidad del Rosario in Bogota, Columbia.

Housatonic Habitat for Humanity focuses on making a meaningful difference in the lives of qualified working families by promoting financial stability and self-sufficiency through ownership of affordable homes. Households often consist of those who have limited assets and who have jobs that also have income caps.
