New Fairfield Oil Truck Fire Under Investigation

NEW FAIRFIELD, CT — That explosion you may have heard on Christmas night was the blow-out of a pair of oil truck tires.

The New Fairfield Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched on a report of a possible vehicle fire around 9:20 Wednesday night. First responders found a "fully involved" fire consuming the cab of an oil truck on Cottontail Road in New Fairfield. The explosion heard across the area was caused by the truck's front tires blowing out, overcome by the blaze, according to fire officials.

The fire was quickly extinguished, before it reached the highly flammable tank.

The cause remains under investigation by the New Fairfield Fire Marshall's Office.

No injuries were reported.
