NOV. 1 PLANETARIUM SHOW/TELESCOPE VIEWING: WCSU will host a 6 p.m. planetarium show, followed by telescope viewing of the sky from 7 to 9 p.m., at the Westside Observatory and Planetarium on the university’s Westside campus, 43 Lake Ave. Extension in Danbury. NOV. 2 OPEN HOUSE: WCSU will host its annual Open House from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Feldman Arena of the William O’Neill Athletic and Convocation Center on the university’s Westside campus, 43 Lake Ave. Extension in Danbury. The day’s events will include campus tours and information sessions. All the activities will be free and the public is invited. NOV. 2 FUNDRAISING EVENT: The WCSU women’s swimming and diving team will host “Swim Strong for Shaun,” a swim-a-thon to raise funds to support the Stand Strong for Shaun Fund, at 1 p.m. in the O’Neill Center Natatorium on the university’s Westside campus, 43 Lake Ave. Extension in Danbury. Shaun Bailey is an assistant coach with the WCSU women’s soccer team who has been diagnosed with a brain tumor. Faculty, staff, students and alumni are invited to pledge $5 to support a WCSU swimming and diving team member, or swim themselves for a $10 donation. NOV. 3 FUNDRAISING BREAKFAST: The WCSU Women’s Basketball Tip-Off Breakfast will be from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. in the Ballroom of the Westside Campus Center on the university’s Westside campus, 43 Lake Ave. Extension in Danbury.
The public is invited. There will be no admission charge, but participants will be encouraged to make “tip” donations. This is the annual fundraiser for the women’s basketball team. NOV. 3 VISITING ARTIST LECTURE: Multi-disciplinary artist Amber Scoon will discuss her work at 11 a.m. in Room 144 of the Visual and Performing Arts Center on the WCSU Westside campus, 43 Lake Ave. Extension in Danbury. NOV. 3 DANBURY MUSIC CENTRE CONCERT: The Danbury Music Centre will present the Danbury Symphony Orchestra at 3 p.m. in the Concert Hall of the Visual and Performing Arts Center on the WCSU Westside campus, 43 Lake Ave. Extension in Danbury. Featured on the program will be Beethoven’s “Overture to Creatures of Prometheus,” Bach’s “Double Violin Concerto” and Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 2, the “Little Russian.” The concert will be free and the public is invited. The coffeehouse will include open mic performers at 8 p.m., followed by the featured act, Natalie Gelman, at 9 p.m. Admission will be free and the public is invited. NOV. 8 PIANO COMPETITION: The first J.Y. Park Piano Competition will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Concert Hall of the Visual and Performing Arts Center on the university’s Westside campus, 43 Lake Ave. Extension in Danbury. Middle and high school students living and/or studying in Connecticut and in Westchester, Putnam and Dutchess counties, New York, are eligible to participate. NOV. 11 BUSINESS LECTURE: The Ancell School of Business will host Dr. Ron Nahser, a Senior Wicklander Fellow at DePaul University’s Institute for Business and Professional Ethics, for a discussion about “Sustainable/Ethical Management, Corporate Responsibility and Marketing Strategy” at 7 p.m. in Room 218 of the Classroom Building on the WCSU Westside campus, 43 Lake Ave. Extension in Danbury. Nahser lectures and consults with business and academic audiences worldwide about business values, vision, marketing strategy, branding, social responsibility and integrative sustainable management. NOV. 13 – THEATRE PRODUCTION: The WCSU Department of Theatre Arts will present
DEC. 5 “Little Women, the Broadway Musical” in the MainStage Theatre of the Visual and Performing Arts Center on the university’s Westside campus, 43 Lake Ave. Extension in Danbury. Louisa May Alcott’s “Little Women” features the adventures of the lively quartet of sisters — Meg, Jo, Beth and Amy March — and their passage from childhood to womanhood during the Civil War. Julio Agustin Matos Jr. will direct. NOV. 23 SYMPHONIC BAND AND NEW MUSIC ENSEMBLE: The WCSU Symphonic Band, conducted by Timothy Wiggins, and New Music Ensemble, conducted by Fernando Jimenez, will perform at 3 p.m. in the Concert Hall of the Visual and Performing Arts Center on the university’s Westside campus, 43 Lake Ave. Extension in Danbury. The program, “Earth Dancing,” will feature a journey into the rituals of dance to the joys of the earth with modern works by David Maslanka, Eric Whitacre, Douglas O’Grady, Aaron Copland, David Hauser and Warren Benson. NOV. 25 CHAMBER SINGERS AND CONCERT CHOIR: The WCSU Chamber Singers, conducted by Kevin Jay Isaacs, and the Concert Choir, conducted by Cory Ganschow, will perform at 8 p.m. in the Concert Hall of the Visual and Performing Arts Center on the university’s Westside campus, 43 Lake Ave. Extension in Danbury. The program will feature choral music that is diverse in era, tonal color and style. Steel guitar, a string quartet and African percussion are likely to be performed as well.
