Obituary: Barbara Ann (Collins) Coughlin, 86, Of Danbury

Barbara was a devoted nurse, spending much of her career as a geriatric nurse manager at the Fairport Baptist Home.

DANBURY, CT — Barbara Ann (Collins) Coughlin, 86, of Danbury, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 27, 2022, surrounded by family. She was the loving wife of the late Vincent Michael Coughlin for 62 years.

Born in Pittsburgh, PA to the late Alfred and Agnes (Wilt) Collins, Barbara graduated from St. Mary’s High School in Warren, Ohio, and the Pittsburgh Hospital School of Nursing. Barbara was a devoted nurse, spending much of her career as a geriatric nurse manager at the Fairport Baptist Home, where she provided compassionate care and strived to make sure no patient died alone.

Barbara was a devout member of the Catholic Church and parishioner at St. Gregory the Great Church. She was an avid reader, especially of mysteries, and had an extensive library including favorite authors Agatha Christie, PC Doherty, and many others. She loved spending time with her family, trips to the ocean, and crocheting baby blankets for her grandchildren, and she believed a hot cup of tea could solve almost anything.

Barb is survived by her five children: Michael and wife Jean, Stephen and wife Kathleen, Mary (Coughlin) Paladino and husband Mark, John Coughlin, and Katie (Coughlin) Scalzulli and husband William. In addition, Barbara is survived by her grandchildren: Patricia (Coughlin) Jarvis and her husband Christopher, Michael and Elizabeth Coughlin, Nancy and Nicole Paladino, Christine Perez and partner Christopher Martin, Katie Perez, Matthew, Mary Kate, and Caroline Scalzulli, and great-grandchild Grace Martin. Barb is also survived by her most beloved sisters, Mary Lou Healy and Julia Guarnieri, and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, July 29, 2022, at 10 a.m. in St. Gregory the Great Church, Danbury In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
