Obituary: Betty Ann Sittig, 93, Lifelong Danbury Resident

Betty Ann was an avid sports fan who played golf and tennis into her 80s.

DANBURY, CT — Betty Ann Sittig of Danbury died peacefully on Sunday, Mar. 19, 2023. She was 93 years old.

Betty Ann was born on Aug. 19, 1929 in Danbury, daughter of the late Anna and John Zaleta. She was a lifelong Danbury resident and lived her life to the fullest, travelling the world with her late husband Kurt Sittig. An avid sports fan who played golf and tennis into her 80s, Betty Ann never missed a chance to cheer on her beloved Boston Red Sox and UCONN Huskies.

Betty Ann is survived by her five children: Deborah Shanley Benzaia (Ben), Richard Shanley (Maureen), Nancy Shanley Cole, Patricia Shanley MacKay (Paul), and Robert Shanley. She is also survived by many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Betty Ann was predeceased by her first husband, Richard Shanley.

There will be an interment at Saint Peter’s Cemetery followed by a liturgy at Saint Nicholas Byzantine Catholic Church this summer. There will be no calling hours.

The family has requested in lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory be made to Saint Nicholas Byzantine Catholic Church, 13 Pembroke Rd., Danbury CT 06811 or Immaculate High School, 73 Southern Blvd., Danbury CT 06810.
