Obituary: Dorothy (Purvis) Bracey, 84, Of Danbury

DANBURY, CT — Dorothy (Purvis) Bracey, 84, of Danbury, wife of the late Johnnie Bracey, entered into eternal rest Wednesday, July 26, 2023, at her home.

Mrs. Bracey was born in Robersonville, North Carolina on June 4, 1939, a daughter of the late Leander and Sarah (Daniels) Purvis. She attended schools in North Carolina and has been a resident of Danbury for the past 60 years.

A retired employee of the former Davis & Geck Corporation, Mrs. Bracey was a member of the Mt. Pleasant AME Zion Church of Danbury where she served as a Class Leader, Deaconess, and a member of the Women’s Home & Overseas Missionary Society.

Mrs. Bracey is survived by a son Rodney Bracey (Valeriana Wick-Bracey) and by a daughter Selina Bracey Brown (Rev. Richard Brown), a brother of William "Pete" Purvis, and by three grandchildren DeVonne Jones, Zaria Hunter, and Korey Hunter II. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and friends.

In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Bracey was predeceased by four brothers, Leonard Purvis, David Purvis, Arthur Purvis, and Jerry Purvis, and by a sister Betty Crandell.

Services will take place on Friday, August 4, 2023, at 11 a.m. at the Mt. Pleasant AME Zion Church, 69 Rowan St., Danbury with Rev. L. Christopher Lewis, Pastor, officiating.

The family will receive friends at Mt. Pleasant Church on Friday, August 4, 2023, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.

Interment will take place in the CT Veterans Cemetery, Middletown.
