Obituary: Edward 'Eddie' Cohan, 87, Of Danbury

Eddie was a proud United States Marine, having served overseas in the 1950s, and was a dedicated New York Yankees fan.

DANBURY, CT — Edward "Eddie" Cohan passed away peacefully at Danbury Hospital on Jan. 22, 2024.

Eddie was born Oct. 22, 1936, in New York City, to the late Bernice and Edward Cohan Sr. He lived with his family in New Rochelle, New York and later moved to Basking Ridge, New Jersey, and then Ridgefield and Danbury, Connecticut. He was a proud United States Marine, having served overseas in the 1950s, and was a dedicated New York Yankees fan.

On Jan. 16, 1960, Eddie married his soulmate, the late Marie Durkin Cohan. A dedicated and generous husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle, father-in-law, brother-in-law, son-in-law, and friend, he gave of himself tirelessly with love, honesty, and compassion.

Eddie Cohan is survived by his six children: Jeanne (Kevin) Clune, Mary Ellen (Chris) Alberti, Colleen Cohan, Micci Cohan, Caroline (Stephan) Bernstein, and Brian (Kristen) Cohan. His cherished grandchildren include Meaghan and Tara Clune, Christopher, Sean, Colleen, Bridget, and Mary Alberti, Tucker Birbilis, Carina Bernstein, and Adelyn and Connor Cohan. Additionally, he is survived by great-grandchildren, Louie June Alberti and William Francis Frascella IV. Eddie is also survived by his brother, Peter Clement Cohan, and sister-in-law, Catherine Durkin Birns. Eddie was preceded in death by his son, Edward Joseph Cohan, III.

Family and friends will be received on Friday, Jan 26, 2024, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Kane Funeral Home, 25 Catoonah Street, Ridgefield. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Saturday, Jan. 27, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at Saint Elizabeth Seton Church, 520 Ridgebury Road, Ridgefield. Interment will take place privately.
