Obituary: Ernest V. Stingone, 79, Of Danbury
Ernest was an accomplished painter who enjoyed working with oil paints, acrylics and pastels.

DANBURY, CT — Ernest V. Stingone, 79, of Danbury, died peacefully on Friday, November 25, 2022. He was the loving husband of Theresa (Fresolone) Stingone, of 52 years.
Ernest was born on May 21, 1943, in Roccadaspide, in the province of Salerno, Italy; a son of the late Felice and Onesta (Vitale) Stingone. He emigrated to the US, as a US citizen, from Italy at the age of three in 1946, and settled in Bensonhurst, Brooklyn, with his mother, sister, and brother. The family lived with his maternal grandparents, who owned a floral shop. Ernest’s father, Felice Stingone, later emigrated to the US, joining the family in Brooklyn.

Ernest attended New Utrecht High School along with his siblings. He served in the USAR from 1966 - 1968, where he received a National Defense Service Medal and Sharpshooter Badge (Rifle).
After attending the City University of New York and graduating with a BS in Psychology, he met his wife, Theresa, on a blind date in 1969. They were married July 11, 1970, in Brooklyn, and were blessed with two children: Genevieve, in 1975, and Christopher, in 1978.
Ernest began his career as a social worker at the Department of Social Services in Staten Island, while earning a dual Master’s of Science in Sociology and Education. He later became a probation officer, and then a Supervisor of Probation for the NYC Department of Probation in Staten Island, a position that he held for 20 years, retiring from the department in 2006.

A resident of Danbury for the last 6 years, Ernest was also an accomplished painter who enjoyed working with oil paints, acrylics and pastels, and exhibited his art in shows in Staten Island and Manhattan. Ernest gifted many paintings to family and friends and sold others. He could often be found playing his acoustic and electric guitars, and piano. At family gatherings, Ernest especially enjoyed ‘jam sessions’ playing hits from The Beatles, with his son, Christopher.
Ernest instilled a love and appreciation of art and music in his children, by taking them to art exhibits throughout their childhoods, and listening to classical music as he painted or worked around the house. He also enjoyed visiting historical sites with his family, traveling across Europe with his wife, Theresa, and family vacations to South Carolina, Aruba and St. Martin.
Ernest is survived by his wife, Theresa, and their children, Genevieve Stingone, and Christopher Stingone, his daughter-in-law, Tammy Stingone, and two grandchildren, Sienna and Nathaniel; his siblings, Pasqualina Iacono and Pascal Stingone, and his sister-in-law, Roseann Stingone, and their children and grandchildren.
Family and friends will be received on Monday, December 12, 2022, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Kane Funeral Home; 25 Catoonah Street, Ridgefield. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, December 13, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. at Saint Elizabeth Seton Church; 520 Ridgebury Road, Ridgefield, CT. Interment will take place privately.
