Obituary: Frances Mary Douglas, 88, Of Danbury

DANBURY, CT —Frances Mary Douglas, 88, formerly of New Fairfield and Danbury, passed away peacefully at her home in Nokomis, Florida on Tuesday, July , 2022. She was the wife of Kevin Douglas for 63 years.

Frances was born in Wicklow County, Ireland. She was the daughter of the late John and Gladys (Doyle) Byrne. Frances came to the United States in 1964 and originally settled in Stamford.
She was a homemaker and worked as a certified nurse's aide. Kevin and Frances moved to Danbury in 1970. She worked at Pope John Paul Nursing home in Danbury for many years. She loved her work there and was a dedicated caregiver. In 2003 Kevin and Frances moved to New Fairfield, where they made their home with their daughter and son-in-law.

They enjoyed wintering in sunny Florida. Frances enjoyed spending time with her 11 grandchildren and her newest love, her great-grandson, Oliver. She also enjoyed many wonderful cruises with her son and daughter-in-law.

In addition to her husband, Kevin, Fran is survived by her children Ken (Janet) Douglas of Massillon, OH, Phil (Marie) Douglas of New Milford, CT, Brian (Tamara) Douglas of Ridgefield, and daughter Caroline (Steve) Weldon of New Fairfield, and her grandchildren Sean, Shelly, Stephanie, (Brad), Chris, Eric Brian, Grant, Cullen, Colleen, Tara (Doug, Oliver) and Steve (Meg). Frances is also survived by her sisters Maeve Shanahan (of Ireland) and Carmel Shanahan (of England) and many beloved nieces and nephews.

Frances was predeceased by her sister Bridget Austin of Danbury, her brothers Michael and John (both of England).

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30am on Saturday, July 16, 2022 at St. Edward the Confessor Church, New Fairfield, with the Rev. Timothy Iannacone, officiating. Burial will follow in St. Peter Cemetery, Danbury.
