Obituary: James Scarnuley, 64, Of Danbury

James had a great sense of humor and he loved to laugh. He enjoyed cooking, fishing, and being out in nature.

DANBURY, CT — James Scarnuley, 64, of Danbury passed away on June 5, 2023 after a long illness. He was the son of the late Florence and William Scarnuley. James grew up in the Black Rock section of Bridgeport.

James graduated from Bassick High School. He worked as a plumber’s assistant and later worked for Stop & Shop for many years. Jimmy was a very generous person with a big heart. He loved spending time with his family. In high school he even made his debut on a televised dance show which he was incredibly proud of.

James had a great sense of humor and he loved to laugh. He enjoyed cooking, fishing, and being out in nature. He was very fond of animals, especially his dog Lola. He was an avid chess play who even purchased an electronic chess game so that he could play competitive games against a computer. In his later years, even in poor health, he still enjoyed eating at the local Danbury restaurants.

He is survived by his siblings Marilyn Tarantino of Georgia, Veronica Emilio and her husband Sal of Huntington, William Scarnuley and his wife Nilsa of Trumbull, Catherine Scarnuley-Rado and her husband Paul of Fairfield, Theresa Scarnuley of Bridgeport, Victoria Scarnuley Grasso and her husband Matt of Trumbull, Annie Casey and her husband Michael of Bridgeport, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister Mary Helen Scarnuley and nephew, Edward P. Casey.
