DANBURY, CT — Joan Riley Soderstrom, 88, of Danbury, beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, and aunt died Feb. 9 at Regional Hospice, Danbury.

Joan was born on June 11, 1934, The daughter of the late Lawrence and Virginia Riley. She was predeceased by her sister Carole Riley Soderstrom. She is survived by her children, John Soderstrom (Annette), Tom Soderstrom (Sue), and Robin Soderstrom Schuyler (Paul).
Grandchildren, David, Kevin, Lindsey, Dan, Tommy, Carly, and Shane. Great Grandchildren, Sophia, Zack, Olivia, and Savannah. A niece Kris Soderstrom and nephew Fabian Soderstrom.

Services will be at First Assembly of God, 133 Junction Rd, Brookfield, CT, Saturday, Feb. 25 at 11:00 a.m.

Joan was active in local politics in Bethel and Danbury. She was Mayor Dyer’s aide and receptionist for Mayor Mark Boughton until her retirement in 2020. She was a long-time member of the Republican Town Committee, a Justice of the Peace, and, for a brief time, a State Central Committee Woman in Hartford. Joan met many politicians such as Sen. Bob Dole, and Vice President Walter Mondale, to name a few.

Joan was passionate about cooking and was a phenomenal cook who took pride in setting a beautiful table and planning out several courses of dinner. She also loved to do needlepoint, crocheting, and decorating. She will be missed by all who knew her.
