Obituary: Joseph Lee Tillery, 77, Of Danbury
Mr. Tillery was a retired master sheet metal mechanic, having been employed with Hipotronics, Inc. of Brewster, NY.

DANBURY, CT — Joseph Lee Tillery, 77, of Danbury, husband of Ester (LeSane) Tillery, was called home to be with his Lord and Savior on the afternoon of Thursday, Nov. 2, 2023.
Mr. Tillery was born in Greenville, North Carolina on Nov. 13, 1945, a son of the late Robert and Hattie (Mayo) Tillery. He attended North Carolina schools.

An area resident since 1965, coming from North Carolina, Mr. Tillery was a U.S. Army veteran having served from 1969 to 1971 being honorably discharged as a Specialist 5th Class. He also served an additional 6 years (71-77) in the National Guard post-honorable discharge from his service in Vietnam.

As a retiree, he worked as a driver for Jericho Partnership, Inc. Danbury, Ct. for 10-plus years.
As a past-time, he enjoyed cars, racing and being of good servant to the Danbury community and most especially enjoyed the time spent with his family and friends.
He was a long-time member & Trustee of St. James’ AME Church of Danbury.
In addition to his spouse Ester of fifty-five years, Mr. Tillery is survived by three daughters and two bonus daughters, Lysandra (William) Fernandez, Carrissa Tillery and Joann (Arthur) Freeman, Bonus Daughters, Shelly Nichols & Shalita Garrett; three sons, Bertram (Maria) LeSane, Edmon (Cecilia) LaSane, and Joseph Jr. (Luciane) Tillery; a brother, Robert L. Tillery; two sisters, Almeida Brown and Francine Tillery, 18 grandchildren ( Joseph, Jessica, CheNique, Donald, J’Ru, Carlos, Fanet (ButtaBean), Analua, Michael, Jesenia, Edmon Jr., Sharisse, Jonathan, Ashley, AJ, Taylor, Adrianne and Justin); two great grandchildren (Ny’Ana & Gianna); his beloved pet Pit-Lab Tiana, nieces, nephews, other bonus children and a host of friends. In addition to his parents, Mr. Tillery was predeceased by a grandchild Davon, a brother Lonnie, and five sisters, Hattie Mae, Helen Ray, Fannie Elois, Armanda, and Francis.
Home Going Services will take place on Friday, at 11 a.m. in St. James AME Church, 45 William St., Danbury with Rev. Tamesha Mills, M. Div., Pastor, officiating.
Burial will follow in Wooster Cemetery, Danbury with military honors.
The family will receive friends at St. James’ Church on Friday, Nov. 10, 2023, from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m.
