Obituary: Njaal Svege, 83, Of Danbury

Njaal was a great man, master carpenter, loving husband & father. He will be tremendously missed by all who were blessed to have known him.

DANBURY, CT — Njaal Svege, of Danbury, passed away on Friday, March 15, 2024, at the age of 83.

Njaal was born to Sigurd and Torbjorg Svege on Aug. 24, 1940 in Flekkefjord, Norway. He arrived in America on Sept. 20, 1959. He was a master carpenter who exemplified his craft in fine finish work and building over the years. On Sept. 18, 2009, he proudly became a U.S. citizen.

He was preceded in death by his son, Thor S. Svege, and daughter-in-law Aileen M. Svege on Sept. 16, 1999. He is survived by his adoring wife Alice G. Svege with whom he would have celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary this coming May 31; son Eric N. Svege; daughter Linda J. Svege; grandchildren Thor S. Svege Jr., Briana L. Varto (Nick), Galen L. Nekvasil, Jonas N. Nekvasil, and Amelia A. Nekvasil; siblings Gundy Abrahamsen, Svein Svege (Moyfid), Dagmar Snerthammer, and Turid Carter (Glenn). He was blessed with many loving nieces and nephews.

Njaal was a great man, provider, loving husband and father. He will be tremendously missed by all who were blessed to have known him. Although a modest man who didn’t like a lot of attention, he truly enjoyed being surrounded by loving family and friends. He was known for his quiet demeanor and quick wit. Njaal was a man of great character, honor, and integrity. He was an active member of Sons of Norway, Danbury Elks Club, and AARP 1067.

The family would like to extend a thank you to Cardiology Services Danbury Dr. M. Bond, Primary Care Danbury Dr. V. Tikhomirov, Western Connecticut Home Care, and Danbury Fire Department / EMS for the care and compassion they have shown their loved one.

Family and friends are invited to attend visitation on Thursday, March 21, 2024, from 4 – 7 p.m. and a funeral service on Friday, March 22, 2024, at 11 a.m. at Green Funeral Home, 57 Main Street, Danbury. Interment to follow at St. Peter’s Cemetery, 71 Lake Avenue Ext. Danbury. A luncheon immediately following will be held at Anthony’s Lake Club, 10 Christopher Columbus Ave, Danbury, CT 06810.
