Obituary: Richard "Dick" Murray, 80, Of Danbury and Bethel

Mr. Murray was the retired coordinator of Parks & Recreation of the City of Danbury.

DANBURY, CT — Richard "Dick" Murray, 80, of Bethel, retired coordinator of Parks & Recreation of the City of Danbury, died on Monday, March 7, 2022, at his home.

He was the husband of the late Barbara (Rener) Murray.

Mr. Murray was born in Stamford, CT, on August 10, 1941, the son of the late Leon and Rita (Staley) Murray. He attended Danbury Schools and graduated from Danbury High School in the Class of 1959 and furthered his education at Henry Abbott Technical School.

A draftsman by trade, he was employed for many years with the Capitol Machine Company and later became an operations manager.

An avid sportsman, Dick enjoyed golf and softball. Through the years, he was involved with Babe Ruth Little League, the Industrial Softball League, and a member of the Over 40 League.

He was a member of the Danbury War Memorial Association, Danbury Westerners, the Danbury Democratic Party and Town Committee, and the Exchange Club of Danbury.

Mr. Murray is survived by a son, Johnathan E. Murray of Bethel, a daughter Kristina Murray and her partner Jeremy Medeiros of Inverness, FL, and by a grandson Jackson.

The family will receive friends in the Jowdy-Kane Funeral Home, 9 Granville Ave., Danbury on Wednesday, March 16, 2022, from 4-6 p.m.

Interment with military honors will take place on Thursday, March 17, 2022, at 11:30 a.m. in St. Peter Cemetery, Danbury.
