DANBURY, CT — William Charles Bunting, Sr., age 83 of Danbury, died on May 15 at Danbury Hospital. He was the husband of Ruth (Vallee) (Hull) Bunting.

William was born January 21, 1939 in Bridgeport, the son of the late Samuel and Mary Evelyn (Clark) Bunting. He had been a resident of Danbury since the 1950s, and was employed with the State of Connecticut Dept. of Transportation for 33 years, followed by his employment with Laidlaw Transportation for over 20 years.

William was active with area youth sports teams, where he coached and in later years umpired. He was a devoted Yankees and Giants fan, and lived for his family, children, and grandchildren. He was known for his sharp witted sense of humor. He was a parishioner of Saint Joseph Church, Danbury.

In addition to his wife Ruth, William is survived by his children: William C. Bunting and his wife Lisa of Naugatuck, Timothy J. Bunting and his wife Amanda of Bethel, and David A. Bunting and his wife Lauren of Bethel, and stepchildren Bernadine Hull of AR, and Brenda Cyr and her husband Ward of Wells, VT, and his grandchildren: Thomas Bunting, Alison Bunting, and Liam Bunting, Jessie Hull, Amanda Hull, William Bouwmeester, Dakota Bouwmeester, and Christina Bouwmeester, Richard Noonan and Christopher Noonan, along with several nieces and nephews. William was predeceased by his first wife, Louise M. (Kovacs) Bunting, his sister, Marlene Scattolini, and stepdaughter Rebecca Bouwmeester.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 19 at Saint Joseph Church, Danbury. Burial with military honors will follow at Saint Peter Cemetery, Danbury.
The family will receive friends at the Green Funeral Home, 57 Main Street, Danbury on Wednesday May 18 from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m.
