Officials ID Danbury Woman Who Died After Falling Into Candlewood Lake

The 20-year-old Danbury woman died Thursday morning after falling into Candlewood Lake in Brookfield Wednesday, officials said.

DANBURY, CT — A 20-year-old woman who was hospitalized after falling into the waters of Candlewood Lake has died, state officials said on Friday.

Roselyn Blanco, 20, of Danbury died Thursday morning, according to officials with the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection.

Emergency crews were called to Beachwood Grove Road near the Danbury-Brookfield line around 9:50 p.m. Wednesday for a report of a possible drowning. When first responders arrived, Blanco was out of the water and in a boat at a dock, where they performed CPR, according to the report.

An official report on the cause of death is expected by the beginning of next week, the Connecticut Medical Examiner's Office told Patch on Friday.

Blanco was a 2022 graduate of Danbury High School, her friend Erica Toran told Patch. She was enrolled in a cosmetology school at the time of her death.

Family friend Ayana Nunez has organized a GoFundMe campaign to pay for Blanco's funeral expenses and "help ensure that Roselyn's beautiful soul is laid to rest peacefully." Toran said she was uncertain whether the services would be local, as Blanco's family is from the Dominican Republic.

DEEP is asking residents of the Echo Bay area of Candlewood Lake in Danbury and Brookfield to upload any doorbell or security camera footage recorded between 8:30 and 10:30 p.m. Wednesday here.
