DANBURY, CT — Patricia (Ruckbie) Shafto, 89, of Danbury, beloved wife of the late William Alan Shafto, MD, died peacefully at Hancock Hall on Sunday Oct. 15. She was born in Selkirk, Scotland on Sept. 30, 1934, daughter of the late Pat and Mary (Graham) Ruckbie.
Her love of travel brought her to all seven continents. In her youth, she lived and worked in Zimbabwe for several years. After returning to Scotland, she married Alan and together they immigrated to the United States. There she found great joy in raising her two children, working in the travel industry and playing tennis. She was active in the Danbury Junior Service League and served a term as its president. In her later years, Patty loved being with her five grandchildren and extended local "Scottish family," often found dancing the Highland Fling to Alan’s bagpipes at holiday gatherings.
