Police Charge Danbury Man With Attempted Murder After Stabbing Attack

A 27-year-old Danbury man has been charged with attempted murder after police say he stabbed another man outside a Southeast, NY restaurant.

DANBURY, CT — A Danbury man has been charged with attempted murder following a stabbing outside a New York restaurant.

Deputies with the Putnam County Sheriff's Office responded to a call at approximately 4 a.m. on Sunday for "a dispute in progress with a knife involved" at the La Patrona Mexican Restaurant at 182 Route 22 in Southeast, NY.

First responders found a large crowd outside the restaurant and the victim, a 27-year-old man who had been stabbed in the neck and stomach multiple times. After being given first-aid by the police, the man was taken to Danbury Hospital where he was treated.

Investigators learned, "through interviews and video surveillance, that the victim and suspect became engaged in a verbal dispute which quickly escalated into a physical encounter," according to Sheriff Kevin McConville.

Later on Sunday, police tracked down Danbury man Nestor Rodriguez, 27, and took him into custody without incident.

Police charged Rodriguez with second-degree attempted murder, first-degree attempted assault, and second-degree assault.

Rodriguez was arraigned in the Town of Southeast Court and remanded to the Putnam County Jail on bail.
