Police: Danbury Officer Cut by Suspect with Knife

An officer was sent to the hospital with a laceration that required several stitches during the arrest of a suspect.

Police were called to 84 Federal Rd. on April 2 around 8:17 a.m. on a report of an assault.

Officers found the victim standing outside the building with facial injuries, police said. The victim told police that a co-worker attacked after a dispute occurred over the construction of the building.

Police went inside the Ingersol building and located the suspect, identified as Douglas Cooke, 45 of Oxford.

Cooke refused officer commands, including to drop pliers and a sheet rock knife, police said.

A struggle ensued and an officer as cut with the knife.

The officer went to Danbury Hospital for treatment of the laceration, which required several stitches. The officer was released.

Cooke was arrested and charged with second-degree assault, third-degree assault, assault on a police officer and resiting arrest.

He was released after posting a $15,000 bond.
