DANBURY, CT — A fugitive from justice who led state police on a chase in a stolen car saw his escapade end in Danbury on Saturday, the News-Times is reporting.
Carlos A. Umana, of Bay Shore, NY, crashed a Kia Soul, reported stolen from Norwalk and registered to a Bridgeport resident, into the rear of a Ford Taurus traveling eastward on Interstate 84 around 4:45 p.m. Umana, with outstanding warrants from New York, fled the scene, with state police in pursuit. Umana then crashed into a Subaru Legacy on Route 7 south near Exit 8. The trooper in pursuit also crashed, "unable to avoid colliding" with the accident that Umana had just caused.
The trooper, Umana and the driver of the Subaru were transported to Danbury Hospital.

Umana was charged with DUI, engaging police in pursuit, evading responsibility and various motor vehicle charges.
The incident is under investigation by state police.
