Danbury’s Musicals at Richter Kicks Off 38th Season with Ribbon-Cutting and New Stage Benefit Friday, July 8, Followed by Musical Favorite “The Sound of Music” July 22-August 6

Danbury - Musicals at Richter (MAR), celebrating 38 seasons as the longest-running outdoor theater in Connecticut, marks the completion of phase one of its new stage construction with a special ribbon-cutting and fundraising event on Friday, July 8. Staged on the grounds of the Richter Arts Center, 100 Aunt Hack Road, in Danbury, the celebration takes place outdoors under the stars Friday, July 8 from 6:00-9:00 PM (rain date Saturday, July 9).

Co-chaired by MAR board member Denise Fontenelli of Danbury and MAR Executive Director Robert Bria of Redding, the festive “Renaissance of Richter” evening features a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new stage and entertainment by MAR alumni performers. In addition to the performances, there will be an assortment of delicious appetizers, desserts and refreshing beverages, along with exciting silent and live auction items to help raise money for the next phase of the stage rebuilding.

Grounds open at 6 PM for the benefit evening.. Tickets for “Renaissance at Richter” are $50 in advance and $60 at the door. Seating and tables will be provided. In case of inclement weather, the event will take place on Saturday, July 9.

The 2022 season continues with the beloved Rodgers and Hammerstein musical “The Sound of Music,” playing on the outdoor stage July 22- August 6.

“In the Heights,” which was originally slated to open the MAR season, will not be produced this year. MAR Executive Director Robert Bria states, “We were not able to move forward with our production of “In the Heights” this season, but we hope to include the show in future programming. In the meantime, we're excited that we’ll be ascending the heights of the Alps with the classic family favorite, ‘The Sound of Music.’ The scenic hills of western Danbury will definitely be alive with music and merriment this summer.”
