Rep. Esty Asks for Congressional Review of Abuse Charges

She has asked for the House Ethics Committee to determine whether she mishandled allegations of domestic abuse against an ex-employee.

DANBURY, CT -- Fifth Connecticut congressional district representative under fire Elizabeth Esty has requested that the House Ethics Committee investigate whether there was any impropriety in the manner of her firing a chief-of-staff who has been accused of harassing members of her staff, the Connecticut Mirror is reporting. Esty kept Tony Baker on the payroll for three months after she learned that he allegedly threatened and physically abused another staff member, Anna Kain. After dismissing Baker, Esty wrote a letter of recommendation, endorsing him for a job with Sandy Hook Promise, a national gun-control organization headquartered in Newtown, CT.

There is a growing chorus of voices in Etsty's own state and political party calling for her resignation. Today, Connecticut Senate Majority Leader Bob Duff called upon Esty to step down immediately.
