Severe Smoke, Water Damage Following Fire at Danbury Apartments

The fire started on a stove.

DANBURY, CT -- The Fire Department has reported no injuries following a fire Sunday afternoon at the Laurel Gardens Danbury Housing Complex.

A Danbury Police Department sergeant noticed flames in a window of D Building of 385 Main Street when he was leaving the station at 2:17 p.m. on June 24. The officer notified the Fire Department.

Upon arrival, units found that a fire had started on the stove, but was kept in check when the fire sprinklers were activated. Firefighters entered the apartment, made sure the fire was contained to the kitchen area, and began salvage operations.

There was considerable smoke and water damage to the apartment where the fire was, as well as water damage in one apartment below the fire, the FD said in a release. Danbury Police and EMS assisted at the scene, and the Danbury Fire Marshal's Office is investigating the circumstances of the fire.
