State PD K-9 Takes A Bite Out Of Crime

DANBURY, CT — State Police K-9 Ale helped apprehend a man who tried to flee police in a vehicle and later on foot on I-84 eastbound, according to police.

Danbury Police asked nearby departments to be on the lookout for a recently stolen motor vehicle Tuesday night.

Troopers spotted the vehicle on I-84 eastbound near exit 15. They tried to pull over the vehicle, but the driver didn't comply.

Stop sticks disabled the vehicle and the suspect tried to flee on foot, State Police said. K-9 Ale jumped into action and tracked down the suspect. Ale restrained the suspect, who tried to break free. Troopers used Tasers to get the suspect into custody.

Manual Ortiz, 18, of Waterbury was arrested and charged with engaging police in a pursuit, first-degree larceny, sixth-degree larceny, second-degree reckless endangerment and interfering with police. Bond was set at $20,000.
