Swan Rescued From Frozen Danbury Waterfront

It was an out of the ordinary call for firefighters.

DANBURY, CT — A swan that got stuck in the ice at Poets Landing was rescued by firefighters.

Firefighters were dispatched to Poets Landing and found the swan stuck in about a quarter of an inch of ice, which made the rescue operation difficult, according to the Danbury Fire Department Facebook page.

Firefighters used the "cannonball method" to move a dock up and down the water to break up the ice and free the swan.

"The swan appeared to be thankful for us breaking up the ice because she quickly started eating once she was able to get through the ice," the Fire Department said on Facebook.
