Tango Festival Dips Into Danbury

Workshops and performances are being given around the area.

DANBURY, CT -- Sueño Academy and the Milford Arts Council are presenting the 11th Connecticut Tango Festival, and they are bringing a tango workshop to Danbury.

On Saturday, July 14, Dale Ellison from Charleston SC and Gem Duras from Connecticut’s own Tango Sueño Academy will focus on "Tango Elegance." At 11:00 a.m., participants will learn "carpas and leans, Gavito style," creating the tango tent image of the legendary tango master Carlos Gavito. At noon, there will be instruction in "volcadas with crosses," and participants will learn how to fall in their partner's arms with an off axis connection to impress with crosses and turns. The workshop will be held at Vitti's Dance Studio in Danbury.

Other activities during the festival will include tango workshops on July 21 and 22 as well as a performance on Friday July 20, at the Tango Passion Show co-presented by the Milford Arts Council. The Festival will open with a tango social in Middletown, First Church on Friday, July 13. The other locations include the Dance Dimensions Studio in Norwalk.
