UFC 208: Danbury-Based MMA Fighter to Compete at Barclays Center in Brooklyn

DANBURY, CT — With hopes of avenging a knockout loss in his last outing, Danbury-based Glover Teixiera will take the short trip to Brooklyn to compete at the Barclays Center for UFC 208.

The former Light Heavyweight title challenger and owner of an MMA gym on Beaver Brook Road will be squaring off against up-and-comer Jared Cannonier during the main card on Pay-Per-View. The elder statesman Teixiera has amassed a record of 25-5 with 15 knockouts, while his adversary boasts a 9-1 mark with seven finishes (knockouts or submissions).

According to a report from WTNH, Teixeira settled in Danbury after escaping poverty in Brazil. On his way to becoming a UFC contender, he mowed lawns and worked in a boxing gym to support his training.

While widely regarded as one of the top light heavyweight fighters in the world, Teixeira has yet to be able to crack that championship ceiling. The Danbury native hadn't lost a fight from 2006 to 2014 before falling to 8-time light heavyweight champion Jon "Bones" Jones in his first bid for a title.

Since falling to Jones and former Penn State wrestler Phil Davis in consecutive bouts in 2014, the knockout specialist rattled off three straight victories, including a first round steam-rolling of former champion Rashad Evans in April of 2016.

However, one swift uppercut from Anthony "Rumble" Johnson in his last bout back in August starched Teixeira's title momentum for the time being.

The Danbury native faces a stiff test in Cannonier, who excels fighting on his feet as well as the ground. He'll look to get back on the right track Saturday night.

You can watch Teixeira's fight on pay-per-view for $60 in high-definition and $50 for standard definition. There's also a few spots nearby that are showing the fight. According to the UFC Bars website, you can watch it at Buffalo Wild Wings located at 26 Backus Avenue near the Danbury Fair Mall and the airport; The Tigers Den Sports Bar and Grill in Ridgefield; and the 1st and 10 Sports Bar and Grill on Danbury Road in New Milford.
