Danbury High School DECA Chapter is working hard to motivate students to make wise choices behind the wheel.
Texting and driving is the leading cause of accidents in the United States, especially in adolescents between the ages of 15-19. Many people think that automobile safety has advanced immensely and is not as big of a problem as it once was in the past; however, the number of tickets, accidents, and fatalities continue to increase every year. Each day in the United States, more than 9 people are killed and more than 1,153 people are injured in crashes that are reported to involve a distracted driver.
Over the past 3 years, Danbury High School has participated in Celebrate My Drive. This campaign is a way to have the community, as well as the student body, pledge to safe driving in order to avoid tragic accidents that can be effortlessly diverted. Our campaign continues today to save lives in our community.
On December 17, DECA members Taylor Lemme and Sophia Pompilio put together a bulletin board as well as a fake cell phone in the cafeteria to promote safe driving. Students had the ability to take pictures with the cell phone and post it to their social media accounts to further get our message across. They also just entered the Connecticut DMV/Travelers PSA Contest.
