Four of Western Connecticut State University’s buildings were evacuated Friday afternoon due to a bomb threat.
According to Sherri Hill, WestConn spokesperson, the threat came in via email. The email stated that there were bombs in two of four buildings but the person did not name which two buildings. Connecticut State Police brought in bomb sniffing dogs and as of 3:30 p.m. Friday, two of the four buildings had been checked.
Hill said the email could not immediately be tracked, because it went to the webmaster and “came from an unusual domain name that is typically used by criminals.”
The buildings named as possibly containing bombs were all on WestConn’s mid-town campus as are as follows:
- Library
- Student Center
- Residence Hall
- Administrative Building
Hill said state agencies are working in cooperation with WestConn police to track the source of the email threat.
“All of our students and staff are safe,” Hill said.
