Western Connecticut State University Welcomes Kindergarten
WCSU welcomes a new enrichment program for Danbury youth
Western Connecticut State University (WCSU) is excited to launch a new academic enrichment program for students attending Danbury Public Schools! Horizons is a transformational, community-centered program striving to close the achievement gap for low-income children. Horizons National spans across the United States and now has an affiliate in Danbury.
Horizons at WCSU offers a high-quality learning experience outside of the traditional school year that supports students over the course of their K–12 academic careers. Students attend a 6-week summer program on the WCSU campus and receive additional support throughout the year. Our project-based educational model is designed to fuel a life-long passion for learning, using a blend of academics with cultural enrichment and confidence-building activities. Enrichment activities include daily swimming lessons, art, dance and sports. The program is offered at no cost to families and includes two meals a day.
This year Horizons at WCSU began with 15 kindergarten students. Each summer an additional classroom will be added. Funding for Horizons includes grants, donations and sponsorships. For more information on Horizons at WCSU please call (203) 837-8944 or visit Horizons National
