2 Stolen Vehicles, Rash Of Break-Ins Reported In Darien: PD

All of the crimes were reported on Saturday, June 16, according to police.

DARIEN, CT — Darien police are investigating the theft of two vehicles, and the break-ins of seven other vehicles, all of which were reported on June 16, as the problem of car thefts and burglaries continues to plague the community.

In one incident, a blue BMW 328D was reported stolen from the driveway of a home on Patton Drive, according to Darien police. The owner told officers that they could not remember if the vehicle had been locked or whether the keys were inside, but the keys were missing.

Also reported stolen was a black, 2014 Lexus RX350 from the driveway of a home on Lynn Court, one of three reported incidents from Lynn Court on Saturday. The Lexus had been left unlocked with the keys inside.

"Surveillance video captured by the complainants’ doorbell-camera showed a light-colored sedan pass the residence several times, and two male suspects in dark hooded sweatshirts exit at one point," wrote Darien police in a statement. "The males are seen entering the Lexus and backing it out of the driveway. The Lexus and the sedan then leave the camera view."

In the second incident on Lynn Court, an unlocked 2011 GMC Acadia was reported burglarized. The contents of the glove compartment were found strewn around the inside of the SUV, but nothing appears to have been taken.

Also on Lynn Court, a Jeep Wrangler and Lexus GX, both parked at the same home, were broken into. Whether the vehicles had been left unlocked was not disclosed, but the driver's side doors were left ajar. Again, the contents of the glove box were found strewn around their interiors, but nothing appears to have been taken.

On nearby Echo Drive, an unlocked 2017 Honda Pilot reportedly was burglarized, and about $5 in loose change was taken.

Also on Alpine Lane, again near Lynn Court, a tote bag and wallet - which contained various credit cards - were reported stolen from an unlocked Ford Explorer, according to police.

A 1994 Audi A4 was reportedly burglarized at a home on Hilton Street, and about $3 in loose change was taken.

Police said a 2015 Toyota 4Runner was broken into on Brown Street, but the owner of the vehicle didn't initially report it because she didn't know it had happened.

"A postal employee found a black book bag laying in the roadway at the intersection of West Avenue and Brown Street at approximately [3:30 p.m.]," wrote Darien police. "He retrieved the bag and brought it to the Darien Police Department. The contents of the bag were checked, and it was determined the owner resided [on Brown Street]."

Finally, an unlocked 2009 Chevrolet Cobalt parked at a residence on the Post Road was reportedly burglarized, but nothing appears to have been taken.
